Applying Rubber to Military and Commercial Washers and Fasteners
The focus of this project was adhering / gluing EPDM rubber to 20,000 painted steel clamping washers. Applying / gluing EPDM rubber material to any surface is difficult due to the chemistry of the rubber. Combining this with the small size of the washers, and this project certainly had its unique challenges.
Applying Rubber to Military and Commercial Housings
The focus of this project was adhering EPDM rubber, using a mil-spec glue, to a contoured basket / holder, which is designed to hold a computer on the exterior of a military vehicle. Applying and bonding EPDM rubber material to any surface is difficult due to the chemistry of the rubber. This made this project much more difficult than it might appear. The computer holder design consists of a base and a lid, so this required the rubber to be constructed in two pieces (one to accommodate the lid and one for the contoured base). Both the base and lid have vent holes, so the rubber must be pre-cut and allow for some potential variation while bonding.
